A Single Mother Working Three Jobs - 1637 Words

Picture this, a single mother working three jobs, she has three girls who are all in school. She has to be sure that they are fed, bathed, clothed, get to school, ball practice, tutoring and everywhere else safely. All of that seems like a lot for one person, but one of the most important things was not even listed. Do you know what that was? Providing a home for them to live in, that is the most important task for her, paying the bills to keep all of these things fall under that too. That was the home that I grew up in. Growing up as a teenager into adulthood, I can remember thinking, â€Å"My mom is so strict. I do not understand why I always get in trouble for things and my friends do not. This is ridiculous†. Now that I am an adult, I think back to those days and chuckle a little bit. I chuckle because I am now a mother, I see what â€Å"those friends† are doing in life now and I see what I am doing in life. That does not make me any greater of a person, but it make s me thankful for the raising I received. Without a father in the household, my mother had to wear several different hats at one time. By that, I mean she had to play several different parts as a parent. She was and still is an authoritative parent. My mother was the one to tell us no, to correct us when we were wrong, kiss the boo-boos, teach us respect for ourselves and the ones around us, talk to us when we were upset, the one to hurt our feelings, taught us how to braid, and so much more.
